The Pupil Premium is funding allocated to schools in support of pupils from low-income families. Funding is calculated on the number of children registered for a free school meal in the past 6 years plus the number of children that have been in care for more than six months.
Why has it been introduced?
The Government believes that the Pupil Premium is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) and their peers. The funding aims to reach the pupils who need it most. Whilst schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they wish, we are required to publish on-line information about how we have used the Pupil Premium.
